Psychotherapy

Both behavioral therapy and cognitive therapy are used to help you to change your daily habits and negative thought processes which cause you to react anxiously. Cognitive behavioral therapy combines both behavioral and cognitive therapy.

Alexander Technique

There is a definite connection between tense, tight muscles and anxiety. When severely constricted, muscles can create severe mental and emotional imbalances. The Alexander Technique releases muscle tension which can bring about profound improvements in general mental health and well-being. Many people have found dramatic relief in anxiety symptoms related to muscle tension such as aching neck and shoulder muscles and restricted breathing due to muscle tension in the chest.

Bach Flower Remedies

Remedies are prescribed according to the individual and the cause and nature of the anxiety and identifying the exact feeling underlying the problem. Agrimony and aspen are useful for mild to moderate anxiety. For severe anxiety, use cherry plum or red chestnut. Anxiety for no apparent reason can be treated with aspen. Anxiety over the welfare of loved ones (such as worrying excessively about the well-being of others) can be treated with red chestnut; anxiety about inability to cope could be helped by taking elm or larch.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is useful to overcome specific phobias such as fear of flying, state fright, fear of examinations or sports contests. It also helps in the general anxiety. Hypnotherapy treatment may involve age regression, suggestion therapy, NLP, hypno-healing and self-hypnosis.

Tai-Chi

Excellent for redressing imbalances in breathing and releasing tension in tense muscles, Tai-Chi is a martial art that involves very smooth, slow and gentle movements. Originating in the Far East, Tai-Chi is favored by older people as it provides excellent mobility exercise without over stretching the body.

The Linden Method

My program takes elements from a wide range of very successful program elements. By combining a variety of media delivery formats, (written, CDs, Video, Email) to convey the correct information in the correct way, at the correct time, I have found that program members have digested, retained and implemented the information much more successfully. By using a unique group of techniques and delivering them correctly, the results have been astonishing.

The program tackles every aspect of any of the five anxiety conditions head on, breaking them down, addressing them and disempowering them, allowing the sufferer to become well again, stronger and more determined than before. Read more at The Linden Method USA.

Qi-Kung

Qi-Kung (chee gung) is the art and science of gathering, circulating and storing Body/Mind energy. There are techniques that involve breathing patterns, movements and visualizations while standing, sitting and moving. Tai-Chi Chuan (Supreme Ultimate fist), the slow moving dance like martial art, is an example of a moving Qi-Kung. Qi-Kung is known as a 'breath and energy' form of exercise.

Meditation

Meditation cultivates a calmness that eases anxious feelings and offers a sense of control. A study at the University of Massachusetts found that volunteers who took an eight-week meditation course were considerably less anxious afterward. People who are anxious can become dramatically calmer with 20 minutes of meditation in the morning and another 20 minutes in the evening. Meditation classes can be found everywhere now and there are many books, videos and tapes available. Classes can be found in the local telephone directory.

Alternative therapies

Successful treatment of anxiety conditions using alternative treatments is rare, but used in conjunction with other approaches, many people have found relief from some of the symptoms of anxiety.
